The Consortium for Networking and Development (COND), in partnership with the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and PEJ, conducted five-day training on Transitional Justice from January 12 - 16, 2018 E.C. in Adama City, bringing together around 30 civil society organizations from COND member’s.
The training strengthened civil society’s capacity to actively engage in Ethiopia’s transitional justice process. Participants deepened their understanding of transitional justice principles, Ethiopia’s Transitional Justice Policy, and the critical role of civil society in promoting truth, accountability, and victims’ rights. Special attention was given to sexual violence, criminal accountability, and the documentation of human rights violations.
At the end of the training, participants developed a collective action plan and committed to cascading similar trainings at the city level, reinforcing grassroots engagement and survivor-centered justice. The initiative marked an important step toward ensuring civil society’s meaningful contribution to a just and inclusive transition in Ethiopia.
